A large solar installation has been officially launched at the South West Sports Centre in Bunbury, Western Australia.

Funded through the Western Australian Government’s Royalties for Regions Program, the solar installation comprises 240 solar panels – the equivalent of 7,200 tubes for heating – located on the roof of the centre.

The centre will use the solar panels to heat its indoor pools, with the evacuated glass tubes within the panels generating approximately 550 kW of energy each hour.

The system was supplied and installed by Supreme Heating.

According to the City of Bunbury Council, the tubes convert ultra violet light as well as solar energy, ensuring their use on overcast days, and they are up to 80 per cent more efficient than regular flat-plate solar collectors.
